Early in life I used to focus on improving weaknesses. Now I focus on strengths.
But then realize over time your weaknesses can (and probably will) hold you back. People go fast early in their careers because of their strengths but their weaknesses slow them down later in their careers.
Don’t mistake motion for meaning. Don’t mistake activity for accomplishment.
When you’re 20 all you care about is what other people think…
When you’re 40 you stop caring about what other people think…
When you’re 60, you realize no one was thinking about you to begin with…
Audaces fortuna iuvat – fortune favors the bold.
Be bold. Take action, accept risk, go big. But do so smartly. Calculate.
Also – paratis fortuna iuvat – fortune favors the prepared
“Last inch” of integrity. It’s easy to do the right thing when it doesn’t cost you anything. The real test is when you have to sacrifice.
You will never regret going the extra mile or doing the right thing. You’ll always regret selling yourself short if you do, and that moment of weakness will lead to a lifetime of regret.
Life is actually pretty darn good. The media has a way of twisting perception in the most negative way. Look at the data/trends.
Team work makes the dream work. Nothing great was ever accomplished by an individual. Learn to work with and lead people.
Alone you go faster but together you go farther.
Business is a TEAM sport. If you want to go far in business, you have to figure out how to work effectively with partners, serve customers, and get the most out of the people who work for you. Leadership is the hardest part of business. Business would be easy if it weren’t for customers and employees.
Windows of opportunity open and close quickly. Be ready to jump when an opportunity presents itself.
Especially biographies and memoirs.
You’ll see even the heros of your day are mortal and have has just as many ups and downs as you have.
If they can do it, you can too. Behind every accomplishment there’s untold sacrifice happening behind the scenes.
Most people won’t tell you this. They like to act like they’re god’s gift to the earth. But they almost certainly struggled and worked hard to get there.
Everyone else is just as clueless as you are. People make LOOK like they’ve got it figured out, but they don’t.
